NORTH JUDSON, IN. – It was a Hoosier Conference battle between undefeated and Class 2A, No.8-ranked LaVille and North Judson.
The Blue Jays and Lancers battled the entire game before LaVille battled from an 11 point first half deficit for a 60-52 victory.
Conner Hochstedler and Chuck Wilcox hit two 3-pointers each, including a deep trey at the buzzer as the hosts claimed an 18-13 lead after eight minutes. The Lancers hung tough as Luke Beehler, Jared Beehler, and Dalton Dove scored crucial points.
“I felt like our guys were ready to go tonight,” said LaVille coach Michael Edison. “But I felt like North Judson was extremely poised and on a mission.”
The second quarter was an offensive explosion as the HNAC clubs combined for 35 points. Wilcox, who scored eight of his team-high 21 points in the second period, and Hochstedler helped the Blue Jays open an 11 point lead before Jared Beehler canned three shots from beyond the arc to narrow the Lancer deficit to just 34-32.
“In the last few minutes of the first half Jared Beehler hit three 3’s which put us down two doing into halftime,” recalled Edison.
The two team’s continued to battle in the third stanza, as the Lancers found a way to even the score at 43-43 heading into the final eight minutes.
LaVille would then rally in the fourth quarter with Luke Beehler scoring 12 of his game-high 26 points.
“We played them fairly even through third quarter and halfway into the fourth until we were able to get a little lead and hold them off,” explained Edison. “Luke Beehler hit a couple huge three pointers for us down the stretch and the guys, as a whole, were able to dig deep and find a way to win.”
Jared Beehler had 15 points, Dalton Dove seven, and Conner Wieczorek chipped in with six for LaVille. Jacob Good hauled in six rebounds and dished out four assists, while Luke Beehler added six boards.
LaVille improves to 12-0 overall and 3-0 in the HNAC. The Lancers will face league co-leader Knox Friday Jan. 12 at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium.
North Judson falls to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in HNAC play. The Blue Jays travel to Winamac Friday Jan. 12.
