ARGOS, IN. – The LaVille defense held host Argos to 13 points through three quarters, along with holding the top two point producers – Sam Manikowski and Luke VanderWeele – to a combined 10 points under their scoring averages to pick up a key 42-35 victory at Argos Tuesday.
“It was a tough, hard-fought battle against a scrappy Argos team,” said LaVille coach Michael Edison. “Our guys battled through some adversity and were able to pull out a win.”
Luke Beehler and Rilye Cox combined for 25 points to lead the Class 1A, No.20-ranked Lancers.
The Argos defense came into the contest allowing just 31.5 ppg, good for ninth-best in the state. LaVille’s ‘D’ came in ranked 38th-best in the state and held the Dragons to 11 points under their scoring average.
Beehler led LaVille with 13 points, Cox 12, and Connor Wieczorek chipped in with seven points.
The Lancers also canned 7-of-8 free throws in the fourth quarter to secure the fourth victory of the season.
“We had some key rebounds, steals, and free throws down the stretch to help us seal the win,” explained Edison. “I’m very proud of the way our guys were able to finish strong.”
LaVille improves to 4-0 and will play on the back end of a girl-boy Hoosier North Athletic Conference doubleheader Friday. The LaVille-Winamac varsity girls will start the action at 6 pm, while the LaVille-Winamac varsity boys will follow.
Argos drops to 3-1 and will play host to Jimtown on Saturday Dec. 9.
