LAKEVILLE, IN. – The Class 1A LaVille Boy’s Soccer Sectional Championship match between Bremen and the host Lancers was as advertised.
It was a defensive battle from the start. It was Bremen that was able to make that one play to make the difference in a 1-0 victory over LaVille at Newton Park.
Both team’s had chances in both halves, but the solid defense and solid goal keepers kept it scoreless in the first half. LaVille goalies Rilye Cox and Bremen goalie Brooks Feldman made several outstanding saves to keep the ball out of the net.
Bremen’s Collin Moren was able to convert in the 53rd minute to make the difference.
The Lancers fought valiantly, getting several shots in the final minutes, but just wasn’t able to find the net in a heart-breaking loss.
“This was one of those that someone had to lose,” LaVille coach Justin Christy said. “We had chances. Just when we thought one might find the net . . . ”
Bremen outshot LaVille, 8-6. And, the Lions had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
LaVille finished the season 8-8-1.
