school news · Mago Foundation Still “Keeping The Beat”

LAKEVILLE, IN. – Hey student-athletes!

Want to make sure that you are still able to finish off your junior high or high school athletic career?

Sometimes your annual visit to your doctor and their stethoscope doesn’t catch something irregular in your heartbeat. Heart screenings save lives!  It can save yours and it is well worth the time and money to get your heart checked.

The Zac Mago Foundation was established in memory of Zac Mago. Mago was an honor student and student athlete on the John Glenn High School basketball team.  Zac passed away in July of 2018 when he laid down one afternoon to take a nap and never woke back up.

Zac died from cardiopulmonary arrest due to an enlarged heart.  The Zac Mago Foundation wants to provide information and preventive heart screenings to stop sudden cardiac arrest in teens.  Heart screenings are the only means to recognize ailments similar to what Zac unknowingly experienced.

Screenings take place on the first Saturday of each month at the Walkerton Youth Center in Walkerton, IN.  To learn more about the mission of the foundation and to sign up to have a screening performed visit

Please consider this most gracious offer from the foundation to protect each of the youngsters in Lancer Nation.  A few minutes to sign up for a screening could prevent this tragedy from occurring in the Lakeville-Lapaz area.

Thank you to Zac’s mom – Teresa – for her endless work to make this service available to the youth of our area.

RIP, Zac.
