LAKEVILLE, IN. – LaVille Athletics takes this opportunity to take an “UP CLOSE” look at our high school assistant coaches.
We continue our assistant coach series with LaVille Track Assistant Kym Groves.
Coach Groves says:
I graduated from what Benton Central High School, where I played basketball and ran track.
I then went on to Purdue University. At Purdue I was a member of the track and field team and participated in shot put, discus, hammer, javelin, 20lb. weight throw. While at Purdue I earned my degree in Elementary Education with a Reading minor and Kindergarten Endorsement.
I currently teach First Grade at LaVille Elementary School.
This is my third year as an assistant coach at LaVille. I coach shot put and discus. I have coached seven years of sixth grade boys and girls basketball, in addition to coaching my own kids’ sports through the years.
It is extremely rewarding to coach athletes at the high school level. Having the opportunity to teach them about a sport I love, watching them work hard throughout the season, and then finally achieving the goals they set, is very worthwhile and fulfilling as a coach. This season, I had a great group of throwers and was very eager for them to compete. It was disappointing to have had our season cut short, especially for my two seniors.
My husband and I have a big, blended family with 7 kids and one sweet Golden Retriever.
I also have four State Track Medals:
-> 1997 State Champion Discus and 3rd Place Shot Put
-> 1996 7th Place Discus and 7th Place 400m relay
