Varsity Football · Lancer Athletics: Up Close

LAKEVILLE, IN. – LaVille Athletics would like to take this opportunity to take an “UP CLOSE” look at our high school head coaches.  We continue our series with LaVille Head Football Coach Will Hostrawser.  Hostrawser is also the athletic director.

Coach Hostrawser said:

I graduated from John Glenn High School in 1988.  I played football, where I was quarterback, tight end, inside linebacker, and punter.  I also played forward on the basketball team and was a catcher and pitcher on the baseball team.

Following high school, I went on to continue my academic and athletic career at Kentucky Wesleyan (freshman) and Bethel College (sophomore to senior year).  I played catcher on the baseball team.

While there I earned my degree in  Secondary Business Education

I do not have my masters – I obtained my CAA (Certified Athletic Administrator) distinction

I currently work as the Director of Athletics at LaVille Jr.-Sr. High School.

This is my eighth season as head football coach at LaVille.

I have also coached in the following areas:

Assistant Football (at John Glenn) – 6 Years

JV Baseball (at John Glenn) – 1 year

Head Baseball (at John Glenn) – 8 years

Manager American Legion Baseball – Plymouth Post 27 – 16 Years

I find the following benefits in coaching:

As the son of a coach, I realized the value of coaching early on in life as I was basically raised on the playing fields and in the gym.  I learned countless lessons either by observing things or actually participating in sports.

The opportunity to teach real life experiences in perseverance, determination, grit, togetherness, compassion, loyalty, humility and work ethic to name a few is a daunting responsibility.  While coaching is extremely time consuming, it is also very rewarding.  The opportunity to positively impact young lives are a tremendous responsibility I hold dear.  Coaching, while trying at times, is extremely rewarding watching youngsters grow into young adults.

Interesting fact:

I am an IHSAA licensed official in Volleyball, Basketball and Baseball (had my license for 30 years in all 3 sports)

I absolutely love to grill out & I love dogs!
