Boys Varsity Basketball · Basketball Set For 80th Meeting With John Glenn In TCU Semifinal

LAKEVILLE, IN. – It’s a basketball night in Lakeville!

The LaVille varsity basketball team will face neighborhood rival John Glenn in the semifinal round of the 55th Annual TCU Bi-County Basketball Tournament later today, Friday, January 25.

The Falcons and Lancers met back on December 21 at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium, with John Glenn picking up a 44-35 victory.

It was a physical, defensive game.  The Falcons shot 37-percent from the field, while the Lancers shot just 31-percent.

The game ultimately was decided at the free throw line, as John Glenn made more charity tosses than LaVille shot.  JG was 14-0f-18, while LV finished 5-of-10.

“Playing a team two times in a short period of time allows for each team to know one another very well,” said Edison as LaVille prepares for the second meeting in a month.  “With both of us knowing one another so well a big part of the outcome will come down to who executes the best.”

“John Glenn is very talented and have so many weapons offensively and defensively,” continued Edison.  “Coach Hannah does a great job getting his guys prepared for each game they play.  We can expect a battle tonight as both teams will be ready to play.”

This is the 80th Meeting all-time, with John Glenn leading LaVille 53-26.  The Falcons also lead the series 33-14 in games played at LaVille.

“John Glenn has a great tradition and have had some very good teams over the years,” said Edison.  “It has been a fun rivalry where two teams a short distance from another can compete at a high level.  We have a lot of respect for Glenn and know that we will have to play our very best to be competitive in tonight’s game.”

Andrew Dill came off the bench to lead the LaVille offense with 11 points in the December 21 meeting.  Leyton Czarnecki, who will miss tonight’s game due to an ankle injury, scored 10 points.

John Glenn’s Rob Porter led all scorers with 13 points. Carter Yung and Khori Barker added nine points in the December Falcon victory.

According to Edison, in order for LaVille to be competitive tonight the Lancers will have to do the following things well tonight: “1.  1/2 Court Defense – We must have quick rotations, strong solid post defense, and good 1 on 1 defense not allowing them to drive right around us to the basket. 2.)  Rebounding – We must get a body on them on the defensive end and we must make a concerted effort on the offensive end to get second chance opportunities. 3.)  Offensively – We need to get high percentage shots and must have an attack mentality.”
