BREMEN, IN. – The LaVille High School Volleyball team is set to battle for the Class 2A Sectional #35 championship.
LaVille (16-13) drew a first round bye and will play Bremen (5-15) in the 11 a.m. semifinal. The Lions defeated Westville 3-0 in one of the October 17 first round matches. The second October 19 semifinal will be between Rochester (19-12) and South Central (Union Mills) (12-11) immediately following the LaVille-Bremen match.
The championship is scheduled for 7 p.m. All matches will be held at Bremen High School.
LaVille battled Bremen to a five set victory on October 1 at Cox Gymnasium in Lakeville. Bremen won the first two matches, 25-23, 25-23, before LaVille erupted to win three straight sets. The Lancers won the crucial third set, 25-21, before tying matters at 2-2 with a 25-20 win in set four. The Lancers then outlasted BHS, 15-8, in the decisive fifth set.
LaVille has won six straight matches that started with the victory over Bremen and included a marathon Caston Tournament run. LaVille played three matches inside of two-and-a-half hours and defeated the host Comets in the title contest to win its first regular season trophy in at least 10 years. The Lancers have also won 11 of their last 14 matches.
Bremen ended a five-match losing streak by sweeping past Westville in the IHSAA Bremen Sectional opener. The Lions have won two their last 10 matches, including 1-1 in the Bremen Tournament.
