Boys Varsity Baseball · Baseball Set For Showdown With 3A #7 New Prairie

NEW CARLISLE, IN. – The LaVille baseball team is set to battle Class 3A #7 New Prairie later today.  The first pitch is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.  The Lancers are coming off a weekend doubleheader sweep over Pioneer and enter the game with a 13-2 record. The Cougars, meanwhile, are 16-3 overall.

“New Prairie is a real solid team with a special senior class and they are having a great season so far,” said LaVille coach Brian Lawler.  “Their record is 16 -3 with numerous quality wins, so with these rain outs we have had, we are just happy to go play them and kind of see where we stack up.”

The Lancers have won 12 straight and are 8-2 on the road so far this season and coach Lawler knows LaVille will have to come up with some key pitching, defense, and hitting to be successful.

“For us to have any chance of winning we’re going to need to play error free baseball, throw strikes, not put guys on base because you won’t get away with that against this team,” said Lawler, who has a team that is currently receiving rating points from the Class 2A pollers.  “And than offensively hopefully get some big hits with runners on base.

“Our pitching has been pretty good so far,” continued Lawler.  “Led by Isaiah Herbster (4 – 0), Devon Schoff (2 – 0), and NIck Moore (5 – 1).  I still think we are putting to many guys on base via the walk and HBP, and making to many errors in the field.  So we will need to clean that up these last couple of weeks, because we will not be able to get away with that when it counts.”

Several key bats are leading the LaVille offense.

“Offensively right now we are being led by Reese Gallup, Isaiah Herbster, Jimmy Fischer, and Connor Wieczorek,” said Lawler.  “We are still leaving to many runners on base and need to cut down on some of the strikeouts as we finish up the regular season.  I expect to see better pitching as we go forward and hopefully that will get us ready for the post season.”

This is a good measuring stick for LaVille Baseball at this point in the season.
