Boys Varsity Basketball · Timely Shooting, Opportunistic Defense Propel LaVille To HNAC Victory

LAKEVILLE, IN. – Behind some timely shooting and opportunistic defense, the Class 2A #3 LaVille High School basketball team shook off a feisty North Judson-San Pierre squad, 68-60, for a key Hoosier North Athletic Conference victory.

“North Judson is definitely better than what their record shows,” said LaVille coach Michael Edison of the 3-7 Bluejays.  “They shot extremely well even when we had a hand in their face and they were persistent throughout the game. They were a very tough team to shake.”

Cooper Hochstedler hit three 3-pointers to lead the Bluejays to a 17-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.

A bucket by North Judson’s Chuckie Wilcox put the visitors up 24-17 with 5:49 left before halftime.  The Lancers, however, would go a 15-6 run over the next four minutes to take a 32-30 lead.  Rilye Cox canned a bucket with 1:51 left to put the Lakeville hosts up.

LaVille used some opportunistic defense and some timely shots to outscore North Judson 22-14 in the second period.  Rilye Cox led the offensive outburst with eight of his 17 points.  Jared Beehler knocked down a pair of 3-point field goals, and Luke Beehler Chipped in five of his game-high 25 points.

“We were able to knock down some big shots and get some key stops when we needed to in the second quarter,” said Edison of the second quarter uprising.  “Even though we were 9- 14 from the free-throw line we missed probably four of our last six free throws.  We did enough other things to get us over the hump.”

The Beehler cousins combined for 46 points and seven 3-pointers. Luke Beehler scored a season-high 25 points, including 18 in the second half.   Jared Beehler tickled the swine for 21 points, including 19 in the first half.

“Luke Beehler and Jared Beehler both stepped up big forest offensively,” said Edison.  “Luke was able to penetrate to the basket and finish. He also was able to connect on a couple of long three point shots.”

Cox added eight rebounds for the Lancers.  Connor Wieczorek added four assists and three steals.

With the victory, LaVille improves to 3-0 in HNAC play.

“It was definitely nice to get a big HNAC victory,” said Edison as the Lancers prepare for another conference game Friday at Knox.
