Boys Varsity Football · It’s A Football Night In Lakeville As LaVille Hosts Caston

LAKEVILLE, IN. – It’s a football night in Lakeville!

It’s week five of the Indiana High School football season and the home opener for LaVille.

Due to a quirk in the LaVille Football schedule, the Lancers were on the road for the scrimmage and the first four games of the 2018 season.

“Returning home is going to be really nice this week,” said LaVille Football coach Will Hostrawser.  “There is nothing like playing on your home field.  I am excited for our kids – they have really looked forward to playing at home!”

The Lancers will play on a renovated Lancer field, complete with new natural grass and updated drainage system.

This week, LaVille (2-2) will play host to Hoosier North Athletic Conference foe Caston (0-4).  Kick is set for 7:00 p..m.

The Lancers are 2-1 in HNAC play and tied for third.  Caston is 0-3 in loop play.  LHS is 7-0 all-time against the Comets, which includes four shutouts.

“Caston has around 16 guys on their roster – one can look at that in a number of different ways,” says Hostrawser.  “I think these guys are extremely interested in playing football because it takes a great deal of commitment.  They are young and improving each week they play.  We certainly cannot take them for granted at all.  They play a very physical style of football and we are going to have to match their physicality.”

LaVille has struggled during this particular week of the season, a year ago the eventual sectional champion Lancers defeated Caston, 14-0.

“Historically this particular week seems to test our focus,” explained Hostrawser.  “We have been laser sharp some years and other years we have really struggled with our focus.  Our attention to detail has been our focus this week in practice.  We must cut out the slips in focus across the duration of the game – we need to play clean the entire 48 minutes.”

When asked to talk about Caston’s offense and defense, coach Hostrawser explained the Comet attack.

“Caston’s offense is very similar to Winamac’s,” said Hostrawser, who is 23-6 in games played at Lancer Field.  “They run a double wing double TE and run a lot off tackle.  Their QB (6′-6” junior Hunter Schanlaub) has a very strong arm and they can throw a nice deep ball that we must always be ready for.  They also run one of the best traps we will face this season.  6-foot senior Blake Albright is probably their best offensive threat.

“Caston runs a traditional 5-2 defense with strong defensive pursuit,” continued Hostrawser.  “Their best defensive player is probably LB 6′-1″ senior #79 Chris Smith. We must play clean for 48 minutes in all three phases of the game.  We need to see more consistency on offense and with our special teams units.  Defensively, we must continue to improve our pursuit and tackling.”

Even though the Fulton visitors may be small in numbers and without a victory on the scoreboard, the LaVille goal continues to be the same as week one.

“Regardless of records, our goal is simple,” concluded Hostrawser.  “We want to improve each week and be playing our best football week 10 when the state tournament starts.  This game is a step in the process.”
