Multiple Teams · Regional FB Title On The Line; Blue Collar Lancers Set To Battle No.1-Ranked Pioneer

ROYAL CENTER, IN. – The LaVille football team is playing for a IHSAA football regional championship for the first time since 2003.  The Lancers (8-4) travel to Class 1A, No.1-ranked Pioneer (12-0) for a 7:30pm.  The winner will advance to the north semi-state against the winner of Monroe Central and Southwood Friday Nov. 17.

LaVille is coming off a 10-7 IHSAA Class 1A, Sectional #41 championship victory over Triton.  The first football sectional title since 2003.

“Winning the sectional is a super special feeling,” said LaVille football coach Will Hostrawser.  “In football they are extremely hard to come by because you have to string together three solid games against tough competition.  I will not soon forget just standing and watching our students, fans, community celebrate together on the field.  The pure joy and sense of achievement and pride was very evident.”

Similar to the entire run through Sectional #41, the regional will is a rematch of a Hoosier North Athletic Conference game earlier this year.  Pioneer defeated LaVille, 41-0, during week #3 of the regular season.

“Pioneer is the #1 ranked team in the state,” said Hostrawser.  “They are the odds on favorite to win the title.  I know one thing is for certain – our guys will show up and we will be ready to play.  This is a golden opportunity for us – we will leave everything on the field and let the chips fall where they may.

“This team has been proving a lot of people wrong all season – they refuse to give in to the “we are rebuilding this season” mentality,” continued Hostrawser of his Lancer team that has won seven of nine games and five straight.  “A lot of people wrote us totally off after the big graduation losses we had last season.  We were not supposed to do any of this.  At one point in the season we were 3-4 and only scored one offensive touchdown in three games.  We have come a long way – our young guys have grow up and our seniors have learned how to lead.  We have all worked together really hard to get better week in and week out.  This team has played in a lot of close games this season – we have been pushed back up against the wall several times only to fight back and find a way to win together.  In order to do that, everyone must believe in the abilities of one another.  This team is special for that reason – they all role their sleeves up and just get after it.  They are the very definition of “blue collar” – they are Lancers!”

The Lancers are proud to have won the first sectional title since 2003, but understand there is more work to be done to take the next step.  Below please find some comments from captains of the Lancer football team:

DAKOTA FIGG

On Winning The Sectional Championship:

“It is an amazing feeling knowing that we accomplished something that no one has done in 14 years and to think that we did it with a bunch of kids that were basically last years leftovers. Left over from a team that had the potential to win state.”

On The Regional Against Pioneer:
“Personally, I think it would be almost sweeter than a state title. Beating pioneer would be an amazing accomplishment that know one would see coming and its going to take everyone’s best effort along with every trick in the book to pull it off.”

JACOB GOOD

On Winning The Sectional Championship:

“It feels great to win the sectional as a senior especially after being so close the last two years, it is a good thing to be able to remember in the future, but we are not done.”

On The Regional Against Pioneer:

“Pioneer is a really good team that has a lot of weapons and a lot of speed. It will be interesting to see how much we, as well as them, have improved since the week three game, and hopefully there is a different outcome this time with a lot on the line.”

NATHAN NICHOLS PETERSEN

On Winning The Sectional Championship:

“Winning our first sectional since 2003 is amazing. It is especially great for the seniors because they have been in a sectional championship all four years and have lost their first three, so its great to send them out with a sectional championship and hopefully more.”

On The Regional Against Pioneer:
“Playing Pioneer again for a Regional championship is a very good opportunity. They are ranked number one in the state and have a lot of people backing on them to beat us on Friday, so that leaves no pressure on us. We are just going to go out there and play our hearts out and hopefully end up with a regional title.”

RILEY WAGONER

On Winning The Sectional Championship:

“It means a lot to win this one after losing in the last two for the Juniors and the last three for the seniors. It means even more to win the first sectional since 2003.”

On The Regional Against Pioneer:

“I think both teams have made a lot of improvements throughout the year. Both teams are playing their best football. Coach will have us ready for Friday night and we are going to get off the bus and give them everything we have.”
