Multiple Teams · Lancer FB Set For Semifinal Game Against Culver Community

LAKEVILLE, IN. – It’s a football night in Lakeville!

Following a 30-0 opening round victory over North Judson in the 45th IHSAA state football tournament, LaVille is set to do battle in the semifinals.  On Friday Oct. 27 Culver Community comes to town for the right to advance to the Class 1A, Sectional #41 sectional title.  The Oct. 27 kick-off is scheduled for 7pm.

The Lancers and Cavaliers are familiar foes, playing each other in the former Northern State Conference, and now in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference.  Oh, and for the second consecutive week, a team LaVille just played three weeks ago.  Coach Will Hostrawser’s bunch came out on top of a tightly contested HNAC affair, 17-10, in the final regular season game.

“Culver is a very good team that has some big guys upfront,” said captain Jacob Good. “They have a lot of guys who go both ways and they are a really tough team. Having to play them on a short turn around makes it even more difficult to win because they know what we do. But, we are also familiar with their game plan, so hopefully we can capitalize on that.”

Captain Dakota Figg also recalls a battle just two short weeks ago.

“I’m excited to play them again,’ said Figg. “It was a really good game the first time. We just have to play hard and not underestimate them because they are going to come out with an edge because we beat them last time and its going to be one are last games.”

Based on the IHSAA draw and outcomes of first round games, LaVille is awarded a second straight home game.

“It’s great to have another game at home because you always feel more comfortable playing there,” explained captain Nathan Nichols Petersen.  “The opportunity to keep moving on and advance to the sectional championship is exciting, but we have to take care of the task ahead of us this week before we can start thinking ahead.”

A LaVille victory would put the Lancers in the sectional championship game for the third straight season.  The Lancers would get the winner of Winamac and Triton.

“It would mean a lot to play for a sectional championship,” said captain Riley Wagoner.  “We are a young team in a “rebuilding” year but to make it back to the sectional championship would show how much we have improved this year from the beginning of the year.”

First things first.  The Lancers have to get past a tough and talented Cavalier squad.

LaVille has won the last five straight encounters.  Prior to the current streak, Culver won five in a row prior to the recent streak.  LaVille holds a 23-12 series lead over the last 30 years.
