Boys Varsity Soccer · Two First-Half Goals, Solid ‘D’ Send Lancers To Semifinals

ELKHART, IN. – Two first-half goals and solid defense over the final 30 minutes helped the Lancer boys soccer team defeat Elkhart Christian Academy, 2-1. It was the opening round of the 24th annual IHSAA state tournament in the Class 1A Elkhart Christian Academy Sectional Monday.

The first half could not have gone any better for the Lancers. LaVille was able to maintain possession and keep pressure on ECA for the first 40 minutes to put ECA on their heels. LaVille scored quickly on a corner kick from Jake Anders in the 17th minute. The ball was headed in by defender Austin Dove. LaVille would have seven corner kicks on the night, but would only score on one of them. Dalton Dove added some insurance by scoring on a one-touch shot just over the keeper to make it 2-0 LaVille.
In the second half, the defense really turned up the heat on ECA. The Eagles would make multiple attempts at long balls just over the four defenders. Each though the ball was run down and cut off by the Lancer defensive unit. ECA was able to capitalize on a misplay in the back in the 46th minute. LaVille was not able to get a good clear of the ball and it fell right back on the foot of Jackson Klahr for a shot on goal.
The Lancer defense played flawlessly the final 30 minutes to hold off the Eagles.

LaVille advances to the semifinal round Wednesday to face Washington Township, a 3-0 winner over Westville.  Wednesday’s match is scheduled to start at 5pm.
