LAKEVILLE, IN. – The LaVille girls golf team has a pair of sophomores on the team this season. Taylor Garrett and Elizabeth Howard are doing their best to improve their game, and have a little fun along the way.
“We are getting a lot of golf time in with practices and we are having a lot of fun on the course and are improving a lot,” said coach Lindsay Garrett. “We haven’t had very many matches.”
The Lancers have a busy schedule to close the regular season, which allows the girls to show what they have working on this season.
“We have been working mostly on improving our distance on drives and our short game,” said Coach Garrett. “Taylor had quite a slice at the beginning of the season, but we have worked on correcting that and her tee shots have improved immensely on distance. Elizabeth has still been working on some of the basics, but she has improved her game all around so far.”
The Lancers practice at Tri-Way Golf Course, which also has a driving range, and provides a nice mix of open area and a woodsy feel feel for the golfers.
According to Coach Garrett, “Taylor has been shooting between 63-68 and Elizabeth has been shooting between 72-78,” for nine holes. Taylor’s best score so far this season is a 66, while Elizabeth’s is a 75.
“Taylor has been having some great drives with distances of around 150 yards,” concluded Coach Garrett. “She has been working very hard on improving the distance and straightness of her drives. Elizabeth has been doing great in the fairway and with her chips. She can pop it right up on the green when she needs to now.”
