Steinke, wrestling in the heavy weight division, pinned his first opponent from Lowell.  In the second round he got pinned by his Kankakee Valley opponent, before pinning the man from Crown Point to advance to the next step.

“One of my goals was to get to Semi-State this year,” Stenike said of his preseason bucket list. “My first match on Saturday (at Semi-State) is against South Bend St. Joseph.

“I just want to take each match and keep wrestling.” the senior continued.

A victory in the first round Saturday at East Chicago Central would put Steinke opposite the #1-ranked wrestler in the state, and, according to Steinke, “He’s a big boy and #2 in the nation.”
